Articles and tips

One of the responsibilities that a leading mediator has is not only to learn from his own experiences but also to impart knowledge and experience to all those taking part in mediation and to the wider community of mediators.

I frequently produce articles and give talks. These include many tips on how to get the best out of mediation and I set out below some examples of that work:

Teaching

I am a member of the ICC Panel of Mediators and contribute to the ICC International Mediation Competition for law schools which started in January 2006. I have been part of its development from the start and in 2008 I set one of the core problems for the competitors, helped in the design of the competition, acted as a mediator and a judge in the preliminary rounds and as a judge in the final. Forty Law Schools from around the world took part and the objective is to expand the competition still further next year.

I have also presented and taken part in conferences including “Mediators Have No Stake In The Outcome” in Paris, a talk to barristers on “Current Issues in Mediations” in London and at the ADR Group annual conference in Oxford, an address as Chairman and the facilitation of several sessions.

I have accepted an invitation to be the Visiting Professor in Mediation and ADR affairs at the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Law. I will be contributing to their new LLM Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Programme.

I have also, from the beginning of my mediation career, undertaken a regular programme of public speaking in order to increase awareness of mediation, and such speeches have been given to judges, lawyers, policy-makers and business and commercial organisations.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you do not find what you particularly need or you would like me to undertake a presentation for you.
